New Zealand Workshop, April 2016

It's been a long time coming but here's a little recap on the 2 weeks I spent in the South Island of New Zealand in April 2016.

The first week was spent on a road trip down the West Coast of the South Island from the very top, working our way down to Queenstown. I was traveling with good friend and fellow photographer Mark Rhodes and models Sylph Sia, Romi Muse, Kira Floofie and Darby Breckderry.

It was an incredible week with some amazing locations and images captured. Our first location and probably my favourite, was Wharariki Beach. We had perfect weather there but as we got further south, we encountered more cloudy and rainy days until we headed away from the coast into Queenstown where the weather improved again for us.

Our base for the workshop was the awesome Kinloch Lodge which is located on the other end of the lake to Queenstown. Here we were joined by model Nicole Vaunt and assistant tutor for the workshop, Corwin Prescott. The lake is literally right out the front of the lodge so we didn’t have to go far for some stunning scenery and locations to shoot. We also did some trips a little further afield to places like Moke Lake and Skippers Canyon which also provided some incredible photo opportunities.

The highlight of the workshop was the helicopter flight to a small glacier high up in the mountain range, about 15 minutes flight from Glenorchy. Again the weather was very kind to us and was also not too cold until the wind picked up and started blowing right of the glacier.

This was the second year in a row that I ran the workshop in New Zealand. I will skip NZ in 2017 and run one in Tasmania in March and hopefully back to Iceland later in the year.
